MyUAL University
Campus App
How Might We Make Information More Accessible to Students through the campus app experience?
MyUAL is the campus app used by 21k+ students in the University of the Arts London. The original app suffered low user satisfaction, and I was contracted to carry out user experience research and redesign the user interface accordingly.

Focus Group
A focus group was carried out to gather student experience opinions about MyUAL, their preferred information layout in the app, and functions that they need the most(Snippets of report to the right). The following features are considered the most important:
Accessible Timetable
90% of students say that the timetable is the only reason they access the app, so I integrated the timetable feature into the main navigation tab, rather than keeping it as a widget within the app. This is focused on increasing the accessibility of the timetable.
Information Architecture
I designed a clear information hierarchy prioritizing student access to study-related information, followed by community resources, and then university communications.
In-App Navigation
Since the original app makes some directories like Moodle and Mail open in external browsers, and involves multiple sign-in’s to access content, which makes a confusing navigation. The new design involves embedded web views that opens within the app, maintaining navigation consistency.
The optimal solution is to implement Single-Sign-On(SSO) for the app, whereby when students authenticate their login for the app, it logs them into all functional accounts, like Student Union(ArtsSU), Moodle, and Mail.
